Summary Sexy, smitten, bitter, cheeky, beautiful and passionate, the love songs of 17th-century Italian composer Barbara Strozzi speak to us across the centuries.

Join Ensemble 642 and soprano Karen Fitz-Gibbon as they explore the pleasures and pains of love through one of Italy's lesser-known but most intriguing and prolific composers alongside love songs from her more famous predecessors, Giulio Caccini and Claudio Monteverdi, which place Strozzi within the great tradition of 17th-century Italian vocal music.

With the luxurious sounds of two of the most prized instruments of the time - the Italian triple harp and the theorbo - this fascinating program contrasts Strozzi' s rarely-heard, virtuosic and innovative cantatas with popular dances and intimate instrumental toccatas of the Italian baroque.

To celebrate Father's Day, this concert will begin with a lovely afternoon tea at 2.15 pm, and the concert will commence at 3.00 pm.

Tickets: $45 (conc. $40)
