Summary Named after the composer Nicolas Gombert (c.1495-1560), the Ensemble specialises in a cappella performance of Franco-Flemish music of the High Renaissance.

Heinrich Schütz created one of the most artistic and heartfelt works of mourning ever written in the history of music. His Musikalische Exequien is an extraordinary setting of German texts composed for the funeral of his employer, Henry II, Count of Reuss-Gera (nicknamed 'Henry Posthumous', since he was born after his father's death). The concert also includes two a cappella works of Michael Praetorius - his six-voice Magnificat super In te Domine speravi, based upon a motet by Lassus, and the dramatic eight-voice double-choir motet Jesaia dem Propheten das geschah, a piece that has become a popular favourite in Ensemble Gombert's repertoire in recent years. Experience two remarkable German composers of the early 17th century in a concert of mature choral music that will enlighten and entertain.

Tickets: $39 (conc. $29)
